Harry Potter’s camp broke $275 million and downloaded over 32.5 million times.

On the fifth anniversary of the launch of the Zynga flag, Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells, it was announced that the magic game had accumulated over $275 million in revenue for Zynga, with about 32.5 million downloads.

As the 3rd original game of Harry Potter IP on the mobile side, it has been launched since 23 September 2020, with the use of immersion in the world of magic and classic puzzles, to the Top 100 list of intellectually stable leisure. The United States market is particularly visible, accounting for 65 per cent of lifetime income and 23 per cent of downloads. Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells is the third Harry Potter hand trip developed by Zynga in cooperation with Warner, the first two being Harry Potter: The Hogwarts Mystery (in 2018, with an income of over $400 million) and Harry Potter: The Witch Alliance (in 2019, with an income of about $40 million). The game is a three-sum game, where the player becomes a Hogwarts freshman and unlocks classic scenes by matching magic elements, such as the corner alley, the Quidditch competition and the forest ban. What’s unique is the “magic upgrade” system: collecting stars strengthens the spell, unlocks the role-specific skills of Harry and Hermione, and integrates RPG elements to make them sticky.

At the beginning of the roll-out, the game quickly went red: more than 5 million downloads were made in the first month, with an income of $20 million. Google Play and App Store data show that free downloads of games + in-house (IAP) account for 85 per cent of the share, with an average user fee (ARPU) of about $15. The game is more focused on “light socialization” than before, supporting the online challenges of friends, with cumulatively over 1 billion hours online. The SensorTower data show that approximately 60,000 downloads were made over the last 30 days, with an income of $1 million, ranked top 50 in the wise category. In comparison to other games in the series, Puzzles & Spells has a strong long-tail effect, although it is not an income king. Appmagic emphasizes that the “low loss rate” of the game (45 per cent for the first day) is the key to stability of revenue, well above the industry average of 30 per cent.

This achievement helped Zynga to increase the share of IP games to 25 per cent after the acquisition of Take-Two Interactive (completed in 2022 with a turnover of $12.7 billion). The Harry Potter series ‘ s overall mobile revenue has broken by $1 billion, proving the persistence of classic IP.
